Didn't make Kiss me Kate. Too fat to be a chorus girl, I guess. Not talented enough to be Hattie. It's hard to be in theater and focus on what I am instead of what I am not. :-P
Or it could have nothing to do with either of those things.
Casting is SO subjective, you really can't blame yourself, your talent, your awesome curvaciousness, or your audition.
It is what the director saw, what the director wanted to see, what the director's previous biases are, what the director wants to say about the character and the story...
You can't control any of those. And guessing about them won't help you.
So, no, theatre is not equal. Or fair.
It's better. Because sometimes you win because you are NOT the 'type' and that's what the director wants.
Give yourself another shot. Don't get so down on yourself. Get on with working on your best abilities. Take some time to work those and you'll start to see that no director in the world can make you feel inferior without your consent. (Right, Eleanor?)
And remember all the people that DO think you are talented and wonderful.
